Can you believe it – another school year has already begun! Are you up for the challenges for the 2015-2016 school year? As your WVSPA president, I hope to help you understand and implement the following changes: all the new evaluation instruments; a revised Medicaid policy; as well as an ever evolving role as a school psychologist – who are not only “testers”, but also behavioral and mental health providers. It will definitely be a trying year, but I know we are up for the challenge!
I would like extend my appreciation and gratitude to the collaborative efforts between WVDE, MUGC, and WVSPA in our recent Morgantown trainings. The information dispersed on DSM-5, Medicaid policy updates, report writing, and best practices in autism assessments was the springboard to providing school psychologists with the tools necessary for a more successful year. A special THANK YOU to the following for all your knowledgeable guidance: Pat Homberg, Susan Beck, JoDonna Burdoff, Terry Riley, Dr. Sandra Stroebel, Dr. Lanai Jennings-Knotts, Karen Cummings, Crystal Smithson, Kim Waggy, Christina Hare, Holly Yoke, Myra Moore, and Bryan Wilson.
