As a child, did Nic have show any warning signs for a possible struggle with addiction later in life, or were all signs and symptoms only evident through hindsight?

The one thing that sticks out in my mind is early drug use. His father found marijuana at a very early age. It seemed to me that his father did attempt to address the issue in some ways by talking to his teachers, trying to get Nic involved in positive activities in school, and connecting him with a teacher/adult at the school. I think as a parent it would have been difficult to know what to do in the situation.

There were so many things that took place where one could speculate whether the outcome would be different. I agree with you and think his dad did more than a lot of people would regarding early intervention. It seemed that he wasn't always taken seriously.
